Google expanded its “Live Translate” feature for real-time headphone translations to iOS and additional countries.
The expansion increases the feature’s accessibility, enabling more users to conduct real-time, one-way translated conversations through their headphones. Previously exclusive to Android in the U.S., India, and Mexico, “Live Translate” is now available on both iOS and Android platforms.
Supported countries include the U.S., India, Mexico, Germany, Spain, France, Nigeria, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan, Bangladesh, and Thailand. The feature utilizes Google’s Gemini AI to maintain the speaker’s tone, emphasis, and cadence during translation.
Google states this capability aids in following conversations and identifying speakers. The company said users could leverage the feature for understanding family conversations or foreign train announcements.
The tool is compatible with any headphones and supports over 70 languages. Users access the feature by selecting “Live Translate” within the Google Translate app and connecting their headphones.
Concurrently, Google also announced the global expansion of its AI-powered conversational search feature, “Search Live.” “Search Live,” which launched in July 2025, is now available in over 200 countries and territories where AI Mode is offered, having previously been limited to the U.S. and India.
This feature allows users to point their phone camera at objects for real-time assistance and engagements based on visual context. To use “Search Live,” users open the Google app on Android or iOS and tap the Live icon beneath the Search bar.
