TikTok announced the launch of several new advertising formats aimed at increasing brand visibility on the platform. Notable among these is the “Logo Takeover” format, which features another brand’s logo alongside TikTok’s on the app’s launch page, capturing users’ attention immediately upon opening the app.
The introduction of the “Prime Time” ad format allows brands to display a series of three sequential ads to the same user within a 15-minute window during key engagement periods, such as live events. TikTok suggests that this approach enables brands to narrate continuous stories during times of heightened activity.
Additionally, the “Top Reach” format combines TikTok’s existing TopView and TopFeed placements, maximizing exposure for brands by ensuring that their ads appear as the first content users see upon accessing the app and in the For You feed, respectively. This format aims to enhance overall user outreach through prominent placement.
Despite these potential advantages, TikTok acknowledges that the new ad formats may be perceived as more intrusive compared to existing placements. For example, users might find ads annoying if they appear within the first second of opening the app or face multiple ads from the same brand in quick succession. Nonetheless, TikTok views these ads as opportunities for brands to engage in ongoing conversations rather than mere interruptions.
“TikTok is where people go to see what everyone is talking about right now,” stated Khartoon Weiss, VP GM of Global Business Solutions at TikTok. “Big cultural moments show up on TikTok first, but so do the everyday things people share with each other. That means brands are not interrupting people — they are joining the conversation.”
TikTok is also expanding its TikTok Pulse suite with new tools. The “Pulse Mentions” feature will align brands with user discussions around their products, while “Pulse Tastemakers” will allow brands to connect their ads with a select group of eligible creators.
