Spotify announced a new AI-powered Taste Profile feature enabling users to customize content recommendations.

This beta feature allows subscribers to directly influence the algorithm, potentially enhancing user satisfaction and engagement with the platform’s music, audiobooks, and podcasts.

The Taste Profile will initially launch for Premium subscribers in New Zealand in the coming weeks. The feature presents a summary of listening habits and includes a “Tell us more” prompt for user input.

Users can specify preferences for more desired genres or indicate genres to exclude from recommendations.

Spotify said the AI can interpret ambiguous prompts, such as requests for upbeat music for marathon training or news podcasts for commutes.

The company stated Taste Profile is an optional feature. Gustav Söderström, Spotify’s co-CEO, announced the feature at SXSW.

Taste Profile follows other AI initiatives, including the Prompted Playlist feature released last month. Prompted Playlist allows users to generate playlists based on specific requests, such as songs from a particular television show.

The Prompted Playlist feature also underwent initial beta testing in New Zealand before expanding to users in the United States and Canada.
