X will suspend creators from its revenue sharing program if they post AI-generated videos depicting armed conflicts without disclosing AI involvement. Head of product Nikita Bier announced the policy change on March 3, stating first-time violators will lose revenue sharing for 90 days. Repeat offenders will be permanently removed from the program.

The policy targets the authenticity of information during armed conflicts and aims to prevent manipulation of the revenue sharing program. It applies only to monetized creators and only to AI-generated videos of armed conflicts, excluding general AI content or non-monetized accounts. This narrow scope focuses on content that could mislead viewers about real-world events.

Violations will be flagged through Community Notes or by detecting metadata from generative AI tools. Bier stated the change is necessary “during times of war,” noting the U.S. has not formally declared war since 1942. The current conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran has not been legally declared a war.

AI video quality has advanced rapidly, making synthetic content difficult to distinguish from real footage for most viewers. X already watermarks images and videos generated by its Grok chatbot but previously required no AI disclosure from users. The platform is testing a broader AI labeling toggle for any post containing synthetic content, though no timeline has been shared, according to Social Media Today.

X is a social media platform owned by Elon Musk. The company’s revenue sharing program pays creators based on engagement metrics. The new policy takes effect immediately.
