The appearance of the name confirms the existence of a budget-focused laptop line intended to broaden Apple’s market share. This device aims to attract price-sensitive consumers, specifically disgruntled Windows users, by offering a lower-cost alternative to the premium MacBook Air and Pro models.
The MacBook Neo is rumored to feature an all-metal case with more color options than the company’s current lineup. According to MacRumors, which first reported the regulatory filing, the design resembles a revival of the iBook but without a handle and at a lower price point. Previous rumors had not attached a specific name to the low-cost device.
Apple kicked off its spring announcements yesterday with the iPhone 17e and iPad Air M4, both of which are modest upgrades. The iPhone 17e gained MagSafe support, while the iPad Air received an M4 chip update. This morning, Apple unveiled the MacBook Air M5 and MacBook Pro M5 Pro/Max systems, which are slightly more expensive than previous models.
The company also introduced a new addition to its monitor lineup with the 5K MiniLED Studio Display XDR. These releases precede the expected announcement of the MacBook Neo and Mac Studio tomorrow. Apple has not commented on the accidental regulatory posting or the rumored devices.
