Anthropic launched a new memory import tool for its Claude AI chatbot that extracts context from competing platforms. The tool converts memories from ChatGPT, Gemini, or Copilot into a text prompt that users can copy and paste into Claude. Anthropic said the AI chatbot takes about 24 hours to assimilate the new context.
The feature allows users to continue conversations seamlessly across different AI chatbots. This development positions Claude as a more attractive option for users migrating from other platforms. Anthropic stated users can view changes by clicking the “See what Claude learned about you” button.
Users can manage and tweak what Claude remembers in the “Manage memory” section in the app’s settings. Anthropic noted that Claude focuses on work-related topics and may not remember unrelated personal details. The company added that this specialization enhances Claude’s effectiveness as a collaborator.
Anthropic’s announcement timing coincided with Claude reaching the number one spot in the App Store’s free apps chart. The AI chatbot dethroned ChatGPT in the process. The rise in popularity followed Anthropic’s dispute with the Department of Defense.
Anthropic refused to compromise on AI guardrails for mass domestic surveillance and fully autonomous weapons. OpenAI is taking Anthropic’s vacated role with the Department of Defense. This shift has led to user boycotts and subscription cancellations for ChatGPT.
Anthropic develops AI systems focused on safety and research. The company competes with OpenAI and Google in the AI assistant market. Claude is the company’s flagship conversational AI product.
