President Trump ordered all federal agencies to immediately cease using Anthropic’s technology. The order followed strong disagreements between the Department of Defense and the AI company. It included a six-month phase-out period for agencies, such as the Department of War, to transition away from Anthropic products.
The US conducted a major air attack on Iran a few hours after the order. According to The Wall Street Journal, the attack was conducted with the help of Anthropic’s AI tools. The US had previously used Anthropic’s AI for a major military operation in the capture of Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro.
The Department of Defense has reached deals with xAI and OpenAI to use their models within the agency’s network. It will reportedly take months to replace Anthropic’s Claude with other AI models.
