Figma is integrating OpenAI’s Codex to allow users to create and modify designs directly within coding environments. This partnership was announced one week after Figma established a similar integration with Anthropic’s Claude Code.
The integration uses Figma’s MCP (Mobile Context Protocol) server to enable users to transition between Figma designs and Codex code. Previously, users could only import details from Figma design files, Figma Make, or FigJam into Codex for code-based implementation.
OpenAI initially launched Codex as a command-line coding assistant last year to compete with Anthropic’s Claude Code. The company later integrated Codex into ChatGPT and released a dedicated MacOS app earlier this month. The MacOS app was downloaded one million times within its first week of release. Shortly after the app launch, OpenAI released two new Codex models. OpenAI reports that over one million users use Codex weekly.
Figma was one of the first companies to launch an app in ChatGPT in October 2025.
