Apple is reportedly considering red as the next premium color for its iPhone Pro models, according to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Gurman stated that red is currently the “flagship color in testing” for the upcoming iPhone Pros. While there have been rumors regarding purple and brown shades, Gurman predicted these might simply be variations of the main red option.

The potential shift to red follows the sales success of the current Cosmic Orange option. This bold orange color has been boosting sales in China, where it has been informally rebranded as “Hermès orange” by consumers and is becoming a status symbol. Red is considered a lucky color in Chinese culture, which could help Apple capture further sales in that market.

Apple has offered red iPhones previously through its collaboration with Product Red. The last models available in deep red hues were the iPhone SE, iPhone 14, and iPhone 14 Plus. In contrast to the premium Pro models, Gurman reported that Apple will stick with basic tones for the rumored foldable iPhone.
