Rode has released a firmware update that adds Direct Connect to its Wireless Pro and Wireless Go third-gen microphones. The feature lets you pair the mics to iPhones and iPads via Bluetooth without needing a receiver. You will just need the Rode Capture app to get started.
Direct Connect was already available on the Wireless Micro, and now it works with these higher-end models too. Rode says the feature does not compromise the broadcast-quality audio these systems are known for. You can still record from two transmitters in merged mode, which blends audio into a single stereo track, or split mode, which keeps recordings on separate channels for more flexibility in post-production.
Skipping the receiver setup could streamline things for creators. And getting new features through updates rather than buying new gear is better for your wallet and the environment.
