Apple is testing a range of vibrant colors for its upcoming budget-friendly MacBook, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman. The company has reportedly trialed light yellow, light green, blue, and pink options, alongside classic silver and dark gray. These color choices target students and enterprise users. However, Gurman noted that not all six tested colors will necessarily appear in the final product. Apple has recently expanded color options on other devices, refreshing the iMac in 2024 with seven colors and replacing space gray with sky blue on the latest MacBook Air.
The upcoming laptop is expected to be priced between $699 and $799. To reach this lower price point, Apple plans to utilize iPhone-derived chips, specifically the A18 Pro processor found in the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The company is anticipated to make compromises on specifications, ports, or the display to manage costs. Despite the budget focus, Apple will use aluminum shells produced via a new manufacturing process rather than cheaper materials like plastic. Gurman reports that the budget MacBook is scheduled to be announced at an event in March.
