Meta has turned user complaints about Threads’ recommendation algorithm into an official feature. Since Threads launched, users have criticized the algorithm’s selections, and many began posting joking “Dear algorithm” messages that asked the system to show more of the content they preferred. The meme evolved into a request for a built‑in tuning tool.

The new “dear algo” feature lets users start a post with the phrase “dear algo” to adjust their feed in real time. For example, a user can write “dear algo, show me more posts about cute cats,” or “dear algo, stop showing me posts about sick pets” to reduce unwanted topics.

All requests appear in the app’s settings, where users can review, revisit, or delete individual entries. Users may also repost other people’s “dear algo” posts, causing the referenced topics to influence their own recommendations.

Meta says each request remains active for three days, after which it expires to keep the algorithm “fresher and more flexible.” The functionality follows a limited test conducted late last year.

The feature is currently rolling out to Threads users in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, with additional countries slated for future release. (Meta) Meta plans to extend the rollout to additional regions after the initial launch.
