ChatGPT experienced a partial outage disrupting use for many users this afternoon. DownDetector recorded more than 12,000 reports at the peak of the issue. OpenAI issued a status update noting “elevated error rates” for ChatGPT and Platform users. The outage was marked resolved at 5:14 PM ET.
OpenAI maintains an active status alert for the fine-tuning component of its API service. The company stated, “We have applied the mitigation and are monitoring the recovering.”
Anthropic’s Claude also suffered an outage today, reporting “Elevated error rate on API across all Claude models.” That issue was resolved by 1 PM ET. Update, February 3, 2025, 6:17 PM ET: Revised to reflect the status change and mention the Claude outage.
