Amazon announced that its AI-powered “Search Party” Ring feature is now available to all U.S. Ring customers, including those without a Ring camera. The expansion makes the tool accessible through the Ring app for the first time to users who do not own camera hardware.
Launched last fall, Search Party enables neighbors to report lost dogs via the Ring app. Nearby outdoor cameras then use AI to scan footage for possible matches. If a match appears, the camera owner receives an alert and can choose to share related video clips with the reporting neighbor. Owners also have options to call or message the pet owner without revealing their own phone number. Ring reports the feature has reunited more than one dog per day since launch. Previously, it was limited to customers with installed Ring cameras.
“Now, pet owners can mobilize the whole community—and communities are empowered to help—to find lost pets more effectively than ever before,” said Ring founder Jamie Siminoff in the announcement. “That’s why we believe it’s so important to make this feature available to anyone who shares a lost dog post in Neighbors,” he added, referring to Ring’s Neighbors app for customers.
In parallel with the expansion, Amazon-owned Ring committed $1 million to equip 4,000 U.S. animal shelters with Ring camera systems. The initiative aims to integrate shelters into Ring’s network and increase reunions of lost dogs with owners.
Ring already partners with nonprofits including Petco Love and Best Friends Animal Society. The company stated it remains open to additional collaborations.
