Google is developing a new “Import AI chats” feature for Gemini that will allow users to transfer conversational history from other AI platforms, such as ChatGPT and Claude. Similar to difficulties in transferring data from Android to iOS or vice versa, no straightforward method exists to import chats and memories from one AI platform to another.

AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude accumulate context through conversations and usage patterns. This built-up chat history and memory create an ecosystem lock-in, hindering switches between platforms.

The “Import AI chats” tool, spotted by TestingCatalog, addresses this issue. Users download their chat history from the source platform and import the file into Gemini via the attachments menu. The feature carries a beta label, indicating an upcoming official rollout, though no specific timeline has been announced.

The option supports only conversational history and does not enable migration of saved memories across platforms. Despite this limitation, it provides a way to preserve chats when moving from ChatGPT, Claude, or other services to Gemini.

Separately, Google is enhancing Nano Banana Pro within Gemini. The update adds an image download option with 2K or 4K resolution choices: “Recommended size” for sharing and “Maximum size” for printing.

These developments aim to improve user flexibility and functionality in Gemini. The “Import AI chats” feature appears directly in Gemini’s attachments menu, signaling its near-term availability.
