Microsoft has released a second out-of-band update for Windows 11 to fix Outlook crashes triggered by the January 2026 Windows security update.

The patch resolves a bug affecting apps that open or save files in cloud-backed locations. These apps became unresponsive or displayed error messages. Users reported Outlook crashing or failing to open when PST files were stored in services like OneDrive.

This marks the second emergency fix this year for issues stemming from the January security update. Last week, Microsoft issued the first out-of-band patch after some Windows 11 devices failed to shut down or hibernate. Other Windows 10 and 11 devices could not log in via remote connections.

Microsoft deploys out-of-band updates only for critical problems that require immediate attention outside the regular cycle. The latest update is cumulative, meaning it addresses all known issues from the January security update upon installation.
