Vimeo initiated staff reductions globally following its acquisition by Italian technology conglomerate Bending Spoons in an all-cash deal last year for $1.38 billion.

Business Insider reported the layoffs, which were confirmed by Bending Spoons, although the exact number of affected employees was not disclosed. The Verge cited a LinkedIn post from Vimeo’s former VP of Global Brand and Creative, stating he, “along with a large portion of the company,” had been “impacted by layoffs,” indicating a significant workforce reduction.

Vimeo, established in 2004, has actively integrated artificial intelligence into its platform. In 2023, the company announced plans for AI-powered script-writing and video-editing tools. By October of the same year, Vimeo introduced a suite of additional AI-powered creator tools aimed at connecting filmmakers’ “content directly to AI workflows.”

Bending Spoons has acquired several other technology platforms recently, including Meetup, Evernote, and WeTransfer.
