Google is extending its AI integration into education, offering free SAT practice exams via Gemini and powering Khan Academy’s Writing Coach and future Reading Coach, as well as providing no-cost Gemini access to Google Workspace for Education core editions.

Starting Wednesday, students can access “full-length, on-demand practice exams” for the SATs through Gemini. Google partnered with The Princeton Review to provide content for these tests, ensuring material aligns with actual exam formats. Users initiate the process by telling Gemini, “I want to take a practice SAT test.” Upon completion, Gemini provides feedback, identifying areas of strength and areas needing improvement, and can explain test answers. Google indicated additional tests are planned.

Google also announced Gemini will power Khan Academy’s Writing Coach. This tool aims to guide students through writing assignments, breaking the process into four steps: understanding, outlining, drafting, and revising. Teachers can select between a feedback-only mode and a more interactive experience. The Writing Coach is currently available for seventh to 12th graders and in beta for fifth and sixth grades in the US.

Google stated the tool adapts its feedback and provides examples. Khan Academy will launch a Gemini-powered Reading Coach later this year for grades 5-12. This tool will allow teachers to create customized reading comprehension experiences and will offer insights into individual student and class performance.

Google is expanding Gemini access within Google Workspace for Education core editions, including Gmail, Docs, Slides, Forms, Vids, and Sheets, at no additional cost. These features assist educators with writing, content creation, video and image generation for presentations, AI summaries of form responses, and data analysis. Users over 18 will gain access to most updates in the coming weeks, while Gemini in Gmail and Sheets will roll out over several months.
