Ross Young, a display analyst, confirmed details on the iPhone 18 Pro’s front-panel design, supporting a recent leak regarding the Dynamic Island’s size reduction.

Young, former Counterpoint Research VP, stated on X (Twitter) that Chinese leaker Instant Digital’s explanation of Apple’s Dynamic Island shrinkage aligns with Young’s own report from June 2025. This report indicated that while some Face ID components would move under the display on iPhone 18 Pro models, visible Face ID elements would persist, resulting in a smaller Dynamic Island than on previous Pro models. Young specializes in display supply chain trends, often revealing details regarding Apple’s future products several months ahead of their official announcement.

Instant Digital detailed that only the IR flood illuminator would relocate under the display to the top-left corner. The dot projector, infrared camera, and selfie camera would remain within a reduced, centered Dynamic Island. Another Chinese leaker subsequently supported this claim, which also corresponds with Bloomberg reporting by Mark Gurman last year.

Young’s corroboration contradicts a prior report by The Information’s Wayne Ma, which stated Apple would move the selfie camera to the top-left of the iPhone 18 Pro’s display. Ma’s report suggested this would lead to a hole-punch cutout and the removal of the pill-shaped Dynamic Island.

Apple currently plans to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro models in September.
