Google has launched a Gemini-powered tool in Google Classroom that converts lesson content into podcast-style audio lessons. The feature aims to engage students familiar with podcasts and enhance comprehension of educational material.

Educators access the tool through the Gemini tab in Google Classroom. They select the grade level, specify topics, and define learning objectives. Additional customization options include choosing the number of speakers and conversational styles, such as interviews, roundtable discussions, or casual dialogues.

The tool is available to users on Google Workspace Education Fundamentals, Standard, and Plus plans.

Research shows that 35 million Gen Z users in the U.S. listen to podcasts each month. Universities produce their own podcasts, and students seek educational series outside class time. These audio lessons allow students to replay episodes for review or to catch up on missed material, supporting independent learning.

Teachers have raised concerns about students relying on generative AI tools like ChatGPT for assignments. Google recommends responsible AI use, including thorough review and editing of AI-generated content to ensure accuracy and alignment with classroom context and local policies.
