Samsung, in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm, has introduced the Samsung Galaxy XR, the first mixed-reality headset built on Google’s new Android XR platform. This standalone device allows users to run a wide range of Android applications from the Google Play Store, such as Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps, and Netflix, within an immersive spatial environment.
The Galaxy XR is priced at $1,800 and is now available for pre-order in the United States and South Korea. Customers can place orders through Samsung’s official website and at Samsung Experience Stores. The headset is equipped with a 4K micro-OLED screen that provides a 100-degree horizontal field of view, making it compatible with both augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) content. Its design is noted as being lighter and sleeker than some competing devices.
For user interaction, the device integrates eye tracking, hand tracking, and multiple sensors, which enables control without requiring additional hardware. Samsung has also released optional accessories, including a Galaxy XR Controller and an official travel case, both priced at $250. Financing options are available for the headset.
Early purchasers of the Galaxy XR will receive “The Explorer Pack.” This promotional bundle includes access to several services for varying periods throughout 2025: Google AI Pro, YouTube Premium, Google Play Pass, YouTube TV, NBA League Pass, the game NFL Pro Era, Adobe’s Project Pulsar, Asteroid, and Calm. According to the companies, the Galaxy XR serves as the foundation for future Android XR hardware, including planned AI glasses and other devices.
