Huawei is reportedly adjusting the launch schedule for its Mate 80 series, with the debut now anticipated for mid-to-late November. This information, from a leak attributed to tipster FixedFocus, contradicts earlier rumors that pointed to a release in late October or early November. The leak also suggests the upcoming lineup may expand from four to five models, which would include a rumored Mate 80 Air variant.
According to the source, the delay is to accommodate certain optimizations. These adjustments could be related to the implementation of a new cooling fan or a new “chip-packaging” process for the Kirin 9030 processor. The Mate 80 series has generated significant consumer interest due to these anticipated hardware features and expected imaging technology upgrades.
This revised timeline follows a period where Huawei appeared to be accelerating its development cycle. Earlier this year, reports suggested the Mate 80 series could launch in October, ahead of previous product schedules. The company has focused on bringing its high-end smartphones to market more quickly. For context, Huawei launched the Mate 60 Pro, featuring a 5G chipset, in September of the previous year after a five-year struggle. The Mate 70 series was expected to follow a similar September timeline, but its release was delayed by adaptations required for HarmonyOS NEXT.
New technologies may be contributing to the current schedule adjustment. In addition to the cooling fan and Kirin processor, Huawei is reportedly testing new camera sensors to improve photography performance. Other inputs suggest the company is also integrating “dynamic capabilities” into its 2025 Mate models. The tipster also noted in a comment that the Nova 15 series is likely to be released in December of this year.
