Canva announced on Monday an expansion of its artificial intelligence suite, Canva AI, to include support for 16 new languages. The visual communications platform’s update allows users to access its AI tools and write prompts in their native languages to generate output. Prior to this expansion, Canva AI capabilities were available only in English.
In a press release, the company stated that the conversational AI assistant, originally introduced in April 2025, now supports Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese. The AI can also process verbal requests made in any of the supported languages.
The language update includes proficiency in 31 different locales, enabling the AI to comprehend local conventions and cultural nuances for more contextually accurate results. The company did not provide a specific list of the 31 supported locales. This feature allows the AI to tailor its output based on regional context.
Canva provided an example of this locale-aware functionality:
“Someone in Tokyo asking for a professional presentation will see Canva AI consider Japanese design sensibilities, or someone in Mumbai requesting a festive poster will see Canva AI draw from culturally-relevant visual elements.”
The company also shared that its AI tools have been used over 20 billion times since their introduction, marking them as one of the platform’s fastest-growing offerings. Additionally, Canva reported that it has exceeded $3.3 billion (approximately Rs. 29,300 crore) in annualized revenue and reached a milestone of 240 million global users.
The Canva AI suite includes a range of features. It can generate designs, images, and draft documents. The tools are also capable of writing front-end focused code and creating video clips, a function powered by Google’s Veo 3 AI model. Other editing capabilities include the ability to remove or expand backgrounds, erase and reposition elements within a design, and perform localized edits. Canva AI is a premium feature that is included with all subscriptions available on the platform.
