WhatsApp has introduced a message translation feature for its more than 3 billion users across over 180 countries. The rollout for the new tool began on September 23, 2025, for both Android and iPhone users.

To translate a message, users can long-press the text, tap “Translate,” and then select the source and target languages. The feature is available for one-on-one chats, group chats, and Channel updates. For Android users, an option is available to enable automatic translation for an entire conversation, which translates all future incoming messages in that specific chat.

WhatsApp stated that all translations are processed locally on the device to maintain user privacy, meaning the company cannot see the translated content. At launch, the feature supports six languages on Android: English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic. For iPhone users, the tool is available in more than 19 languages. The company plans to expand the number of supported languages over time.
