Apple has unveiled the Apple Watch SE 3, a new iteration designed to deliver a blend of performance and health features at a more accessible price point.

The Apple Watch SE 3 is powered by the S10 chip, which brings features previously available only on higher-end models. This makes it a viable option for new Apple Watch users as well as those seeking value.

The S10 chip enables an Always-On display, allowing users to view the time and notifications without needing to raise their wrist. The display incorporates Ion-X glass, offering four times the crack resistance of its predecessor.

Despite the Always-On display, the SE 3 maintains an 18-hour battery life and introduces fast charging. A 15-minute charge can provide up to eight hours of usage, while charging to 80% takes about 45 minutes.

The device includes 5G cellular connectivity, facilitating faster downloads for apps, music, and podcasts. The modem is designed to be more efficient, thus preserving battery life.

In terms of health features, the Apple Watch SE 3 incorporates sleep score, sleep apnea notifications, retrospective ovulation estimates, and wrist temperature sensing, similar to the Apple Watch Series 11. It also retains core features such as heart health notifications, Cycle Tracking, and cardio fitness monitoring.

Sleep score offers an analysis of sleep quality based on factors such as duration, consistency, and sleep stages. Sleep apnea notifications alert users to consistent signs of moderate to severe apnea over a 30-day period. Retrospective ovulation estimates and wrist temperature tracking aid in reproductive and overall wellness monitoring.

With watchOS 26, the SE 3 introduces Workout Buddy, powered by Apple Intelligence, which provides spoken motivation and personalized insights during workouts. Users can customize their workouts using Workout Views, Pacer, Race Route, and music or podcast integration.

The Activity app continues to track Move, Exercise, and Stand rings, along with weekly summaries and trends.

The S10 chip also enhances on-device Siri, enabling faster and more private responses. It supports one-handed gestures like double-tap and wrist flick for managing notifications and actions. The watch can play music and podcasts through its speaker, and Voice Isolation improves call clarity in noisy environments.

The SE 3 can be configured for Apple Watch For Your Kids, allowing communication, fitness tracking, and safety features without requiring a separate iPhone. Kids can make calls, send messages, use Emergency SOS, and access features like Maps, Siri, and the App Store, all while parents maintain oversight.

The Apple Watch SE 3 is available in 40mm and 44mm aluminum cases, with midnight and starlight finishes.

Apple highlights that the watch is made with 40% recycled content and manufactured using 100% renewable electricity, aligning with Apple’s 2030 carbon neutrality goals. The packaging is also fully recyclable.

The Apple Watch SE 3 is available for pre-order and will begin shipping on September 19. Pricing starts at $249 in the United States. The watchOS 26 update will roll out on September 15 to Series 6 and later, SE (2nd generation) and later, and all Apple Watch Ultra models.
