The two main tools are Help Me Edit and Gemini Nano Banana, each with different strengths and limitations.
Help Me Edit provides precise, high-resolution edits
Help Me Edit is built directly into Google Photos. Users open a photo, tap Edit, and select Help Me Edit, then type a prompt describing the desired change, such as remove the fence in front of the goat. The AI processes the image and returns results within seconds. Tests have shown it can remove fences from photos of goats, bears, and owls with minimal artifacts or shadows, even in complex backgrounds. The tool can also clean scratches and reflections from glass, producing clear images without distorting the original.
Currently, Help Me Edit is available exclusively on Pixel 10devices in the US.
Gemini Nano Banana offers a creative alternative
For users without access to Pixel-exclusive features, Gemini Nano Banana is available through the Gemini app in multiple countries. Users upload an image and describe the desired edit, and the AI removes fences or other unwanted objects. Unlike Help Me Edit, Nano Banana is more experimental: it may crop parts of the image, adjust backgrounds, or alter subjects, producing creative but less precise results.
The tool also limits the output resolution to 1184 × 864, and complex edits, such as removing multiple objects or text behind fences, may require repeated prompts.
