Acer previewed a refreshed Swift 16 AI laptop at IFA 2025, hinting at the inclusion of an Intel Panther Lake processor. The laptop was displayed in a glass case, obscuring specific details about the Panther Lake System on a Chip (SoC) powering it.
The Swift 16 AI is distinct from Acer’s Swift Air 16, which is an AMD-based gaming laptop. The unveiling serves as a reminder that Intel’s 18A node chips are approaching market availability, previously seen primarily in demonstration systems.
One of the key features of the Swift 16 AI is its trackpad, promoted by Acer as the “world’s largest haptic trackpad with stylus support.” The trackpad extends from the keyboard to the front edge of the laptop.
The laptop specifications include up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X memory, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, two USB-C ports, and a Thunderbolt 4 port. The 16-inch display offers an option for a 3K OLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate.
Pricing details are currently unavailable, pending further information about the processor. Intel reached risk production for its 18A node in the spring, suggesting that Panther Lake systems may begin appearing this year, with broader availability anticipated in 2026.
Intel is undergoing strategic changes under CEO Lip-Bu Tan, focusing on streamlining operations and emphasizing engineering. The company is also navigating a shift in its relationship with the U.S. government, following the White House’s conversion of CHIPS Act funds into a 10% equity stake in Intel. Intel has expressed concerns that this move could potentially impact its relationships with international customers and governments.
