Google’s Gemini AI is coming to Google TV, promising enhanced features like faster voice commands, personalized recommendations, and a smart information panel akin to Nest Hub. TCL has been announced as the launch partner, integrating Gemini into its flagship QM9K TV series.
The TCL QM9K series will be available in 65‑, 75‑, 85‑, and 98‑inch models. These TVs feature TCL’s new ZeroBorder, CrystGlow WHVA QD‑Mini LED panels, offering 4K resolution at a 144Hz refresh rate. TCL claims the new panels are 30% brighter and have nearly 60% more precise dimming zones than their predecessors.
The QM9K series supports Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, and HLG. Audio is tuned by Bang & Olufsen. Connectivity includes four HDMI ports, one with eARC, and a backlit voice remote is included.
Beyond voice control, the TVs incorporate a built‑in mmWave sensor for advanced presence detection. This allows the screen to wake into screensaver mode or display a customizable hub showing calendar events, weather, or Nest camera feeds when someone enters the room. Users can adjust the sensor’s range to prevent the TV from activating with mere hallway traffic.
Google envisions the presence-aware hub as a way to increase the utility of idle TVs, though the adoption of a living room display as a smart home dashboard remains to be seen. The flexibility of Gemini combined with TCL’s hardware could drive adoption.
While exact pricing is not yet available, the QM9K is expected to be priced higher than last year’s QM8K model, which retailed around $1,300 for the 65-inch version. The QM9K series is slated to arrive at Best Buy and other retailers later this month.
The integration of Gemini into TCL’s QM9K series offers a preview of the future direction of Google TV: a faster, smarter, and more presence-aware user experience.
