Huawei is undertaking significant restructuring within its Cloud Computing Unit to more effectively prioritize and accelerate AI growth in China. This strategic shift aims to strengthen Huawei’s focus on what it considers the most critical aspect of its business.
Zhang Pingan, CEO of Huawei Cloud Unit, announced the restructuring, which involves incorporating various key departments and creating six new divisions. These divisions will focus on computing, storage, database, and cybersecurity, according to the announcement.
The Huawei Cloud Business Unit stated that the restructuring’s purpose is to “continue to create more advanced and valuable cloud services for customers through software and hardware collaboration and architectural innovation.” The company anticipates that these changes will lead to increased investment in AI resources and computing industries.
Huawei aims to improve its Cloud Computing Unit to counter US restrictions. The company believes this strategic move will contribute to profitability after a decline in 2024. In addition, it aims to advance its chipsets and foster an improved AI infrastructure within China.
While specific details regarding other changes and the underlying motives remain undisclosed, Huawei’s commitment to advancing its position in the Chinese AI industry is evident through its technological solutions and strategic investments.
