Google Messages has rolled out a widely anticipated unsend feature, allowing users to delete messages not only from their own device but also from the recipient’s. This functionality, enabled by the Rich Communication Services (RCS) protocol, marks a significant addition to the app, which has been steadily gaining features such as original quality photo sharing.

Hints of the unsend capability were first discovered in the app’s source code several months ago. Now, the feature is accessible to all Google Messages users. When attempting to delete a message, users are presented with a prompt offering the choice between “Delete for everyone” or “Delete for me.” While common in other messaging platforms, this addition is a substantial improvement for those who rely on the native Google Messages app for communication.
