Microsoft is rolling out an update to its Xbox app for Windows on Arm, enabling users to download and install ARM64-compatible games locally. This marks a significant shift from the current setup, which primarily relies on Xbox Cloud Gaming for gameplay on Arm-based devices like the Qualcomm-powered Surface Pro 12.
The new functionality, currently available for testing by Windows Insiders, will make select ARM64 games from PC Game Pass or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate accessible for direct installation on Qualcomm-powered devices for the first time. This initiative builds on Microsoft’s 2022 release of an ARM64 Xbox app, which initially lacked a substantial library of natively compiled games.
Microsoft underscores a collaborative effort between its Windows and Xbox teams to ensure broad Game Pass catalog compatibility. The company also announced plans to “develop new features that will enable more games to be played on Arm-based Windows 11 PCs in the coming months,” further enhancing the gaming experience on these platforms.
