Xiaomi is reportedly testing OmniVision’s new OV50X 1-inch main camera sensor for its upcoming flagship, potentially the Xiaomi 16 series. This development, hinted at by DigitalChatStation, suggests the sensor could equip models like the Xiaomi 16 Ultra, aiming to compete with top-tier smartphones such as the Mate 80.

The OV50X is a 50MP sensor featuring 1.6µm pixels and supporting 10/12/14-bit RGB RAW output. It incorporates PureCel Plus-S technology and 100% Quad Phase Detection (QPD). Interestingly, the OV50X was initially rumored for the Pura 80 series (formerly Huawei P80) but Huawei ultimately opted for a SmartSens lens instead.

Key features of the OV50X sensor include in-sensor zoom for detailed macro shots and enhanced image/video quality, delivering a flagship-level imaging experience. Its QPD system provides swift and accurate autofocus, even for moving subjects. Furthermore, it employs LOFIC (Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor) and superior Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) fusion to produce clearer and more detailed images in low-light conditions.

While Xiaomi has not officially confirmed the use of the OV50X in its next flagship, the company has indicated that its upcoming lineup will significantly elevate the photography experience for users.
