References to GPT-5 have surfaced within Microsoft’s Copilot web app, hinting at a potential integration with OpenAI’s forthcoming language model. The discovery suggests Microsoft is preparing for a significant upgrade to its AI assistant.
A new “smart mode” is described, designed to enable Copilot to automatically select the optimal AI model for each user request. This feature aims to streamline the user experience by eliminating the need for manual model selection.
Despite these findings, Copilot’s internal versions currently point to the continued use of GPT-4. There is no official mention of GPT-5 within the Copilot app itself.
Microsoft has a track record of rapidly incorporating new OpenAI models into Copilot upon their release, suggesting a swift adoption of GPT-5 is possible. However, Microsoft has declined to comment on the GPT-5 references or the new smart mode.
