The Nintendo Switch 2 has set a new record as the fastest-selling video game console in U.S. history, with 1.6 million units sold in June 2025, according to Circana’s latest report. This figure surpasses the PlayStation 4’s previous record of 1.1 million units sold in November 2012.
A significant highlight of the June 2025 sales data is the strong attach rate for “Mario Kart World.” Circana reported that 82% of Nintendo Switch 2 purchasers in the U.S. also acquired “Mario Kart World,” either through a bundle or as a standalone purchase. This robust sales performance positioned “Mario Kart World” as the third best-selling game of June 2025 in Circana’s rankings, though its true standing might be higher if Nintendo’s digital sales data were included.
In comparison to the original Nintendo Switch launch, “Mario Kart World’s” attach rate is notable, though not as high as “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” at the Switch 1 launch, which saw over 100% attach rate globally. Nintendo attributed this to some purchasers buying multiple copies for collection and play. However, “Mario Kart World” is showing even stronger performance in international markets, with a reported attach rate of over 95% for Switch 2 owners in France, according to Wccftech.
Beyond software, accessories also saw strong sales. The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller became the best-selling accessory by dollar sales in the U.S. for June, with 32% of Nintendo Switch 2 purchasers also buying the controller.
“Mario Kart World” has received positive critical reception, with IGN giving the game an 8/10 rating. The review highlighted “excellent multiplayer racing, incredible polish, and the thrilling new Knockout Tour mode” as key strengths, despite questioning if the open-world approach was the optimal evolution for the series.
