YouTube is expanding an experimental, Reddit-inspired threaded comment interface to its Premium subscribers on Android and iOS. This initiative, which began with a small user group earlier this year, aims to enhance comment visibility and interaction on the platform.

Initially, the threaded comment system only linked a user’s profile picture to an “X replies” button. However, YouTube has refined the feature to more closely resemble Reddit’s threading, connecting the main comment directly to subsequent replies and also threading replies to individual replies. This improvement aims to provide a clearer conversational flow within the comments section.

The experiment is available to Premium subscribers until August 14 and is exclusively accessible on Android and iOS devices. As an ongoing test, YouTube is gathering user feedback to determine the future implementation of this design change, which may appeal to some users more than others.
