As anticipation grows for Nintendo’s next console, a series of leaked images have sparked controversy among gamers. Allegedly showing a prototype of the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, these images show that while the overall design remains familiar, there are hardware changes underneath. The console has yet to be officially announced. The leaked images have attracted attention online by offering a glimpse into the future of Nintendo gaming.
Nintendo Switch 2 has a familiar face
The first thing to note about the leaked images is that they show a design largely similar to the original Switch. Despite this, several updates are hinted at, including changes to the Joy-Con controllers and the addition of a USB-C port on the top of the console. According to VGC, a gaming website that reviewed the renders, the details align with what a source briefed by Nintendo has confirmed about the upcoming console.
The renders, which originated from a Chinese social media site before spreading to Reddit, depict a console with a larger, 8-inch screen. This is a clear upgrade from the original Switch’s 6.2-inch display and even the 7-inch OLED version released in 2022. While the new screen size is an eye-catching feature, it’s still unclear whether Nintendo plans to include an OLED screen in the standard model or if the base version will feature an LCD.
Changes to controllers and ports
Aside from the display, the Joy-Con controllers also appear to have undergone minor changes. The placement of the LEDs on the controllers looks different and there is talk of magnetic coupling, which could improve the overall user experience. Another detail is the presence of USB-C ports on both the top and bottom of the console, offering more flexibility in terms of connectivity and charging.
Naturally, the console is also expected to come with some upgrades. Reports point to an increase in RAM and internal storage, allowing for a smoother gaming experience and more space for game downloads. However, Nintendo has not confirmed these details and the company did not respond to requests for comment on the leaks.

Real or fan-made?
Not long after the images surfaced on Reddit, discussions emerged about their authenticity. Some suggested that the renders could have been made by a 3D modeling enthusiast, possibly working from a mock-up provided by an accessory manufacturer. Given the high level of interest in Nintendo’s next console, this debate may continue until an official announcement is made.
For now, these leaked images provide a tantalizing look at what may be in store for the future of Nintendo gaming. While the company remains silent on the subject, the online community continues to analyze every detail, eager for any concrete information.
