Unexpectedly, the recent FTC vs. Microsoft lawsuit has sparked interest among gamers and techies thanks to the disclosure of previously classified data. These documents reveal that Microsoft is gearing up for a major overhaul of its Xbox Series X console, code-named “Brooklin,” set to hit the market in 2024. This refresh promises not just a revamped design but a slew of exciting features that will redefine the gaming experience.

Meet Brooklin, the disc-less Xbox

One of the most striking revelations from the documents is the Xbox Series X Brooklin’s design. Unlike its predecessor, this new iteration will take on a cylindrical form, breaking away from the traditional console mold. This sleek and innovative design is a breath of fresh air in the gaming world, signaling Microsoft’s commitment to pushing boundaries and exploring new horizons.

Say goodbye to physical discs as the Brooklin console will be disc-less, putting a greater emphasis on digital gaming. With a spacious 2TB of storage, it’s clear that Microsoft is serious about accommodating gamers’ ever-expanding libraries. This marks a significant upgrade from the 1TB of storage in the previous model.

Controller evolution: Introducing Sebille

Accompanying the Brooklin console is the all-new Sebille controller. Featuring a striking two-tone color scheme, this controller is more than just eye candy. It’s packed with cutting-edge technology, including an accelerometer for gyro support, ensuring precise and immersive gameplay. With support for cloud gaming, Bluetooth 5.2, and a revamped “Xbox Wireless 2” connection, Sebille is set to take gaming to the next level.

Microsoft has gone all out to enhance the gaming experience with Sebille. Precision haptic feedback and VCA haptics doubling as speakers promise to immerse players in the virtual worlds they explore. Quieter buttons and thumbsticks, a rechargeable and swappable battery, and modular thumbsticks offer customization options and long-lasting gaming sessions. Plus, you can simply lift the controller to awaken it, making it even more user-friendly.

Technological advancements

Under the hood, the Brooklin console is set to impress with Wi-Fi 6E support, a Bluetooth 5.2 radio, and a reduced die size down to 6nm, which translates to improved efficiency. The power supply unit (PSU) will see a 15 percent reduction in power consumption, a testament to Microsoft’s commitment to sustainability.

What lies ahead

Despite all these exciting upgrades, Microsoft plans to maintain the Xbox Series X Brooklin’s launch price at $499. This commitment to affordability ensures that more gamers can access the latest and greatest in gaming technology.

Looking beyond the Brooklin console, Microsoft has outlined a roadmap that includes a refreshed Xbox Series S with 1TB of storage. Wi-Fi 6E support and Bluetooth 5.2 will be part of this upgrade, making it a promising option for those seeking a more compact gaming experience.

Xbox Design Lab program

Microsoft is also exploring console customization through the Xbox Design Lab program, offering gamers the opportunity to express their unique style. Additionally, a new Elite controller is in the works, expected to feature the same enhancements as the primary controller refresh.

Mark your calendars

Gamers, mark your calendars, as Microsoft tentatively plans to launch the refreshed Xbox Series S in September of next year, followed by the highly anticipated Xbox Series X Brooklin in November. The future of gaming has never looked brighter, and Microsoft is leading the way with innovation and affordability.
