According to leaked CAD images shared on the Chinese version of TikTok and Twitter by ShrimpApplePro, the forthcoming iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will reportedly feature a unified volume button and mute button. As per the leaked images, the iPhone 15 Pro models will have a single elongated button for adjusting the volume up or down, instead of the traditional separate buttons for volume up and volume down.

Meanwhile, the mute switch that has been present on all previous models since 2007 is expected to be replaced by a mute button that can be pressed to turn the iPhone’s ringer on or off.

The new design is expected to include solid-state buttons that provide haptic feedback from two additional Taptic Engines inside the iPhone to simulate the feeling of movement, similar to the Home button on the latest iPhone SE or the Force Touch trackpad on modern MacBooks.

It is important to note that the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models are still expected to have two physical volume buttons and a mute switch, as suggested by other CAD images in the video. Apple is anticipated to release the entire iPhone 15 series in September, which is the usual release date for the company.

What do we know about iPhone 15 so far?

New information has been revealed regarding Apple’s upcoming iPhone and iPad models. According to recent leaks, the iPhone 15 Pro models will feature Apple’s cutting-edge 3nm A17 chipset, a re-engineered design with solid-state power and volume buttons, and Wi-Fi 6E capabilities, while the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will have few, if any, features that match those of their more premium siblings. Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also revised his prior forecast of a foldable iPhone in 2023, announcing that Apple has redirected its efforts to prioritize the development of a foldable iPad instead.

Kuo stated that the device’s release is more probable in 2024, and will feature a carbon fiber kickstand. According to a report by expert tech journalist Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple is rumored to be developing a clamshell design for its iPad, with the bottom half serving as a keyboard for typing.

The upcoming smartphone will feature a 3nm A17 chipset

Additionally, Kuo revealed that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be the sole model among the iPhone 15 lineup to feature a periscope camera, a technology that enhances optical zoom capabilities. This suggests that Apple is looking to further distinguish itself by offering unique features even within its Pro models. However, this differentiation strategy carries certain risks, particularly in light of the rumored global price hikes for the upcoming iPhone 15 series, expected to be launched later in the year.

Impressive display capabilities

Industry insider ShrimpApplePro suggests that the iPhone 15 Pro Max could come equipped with a cutting-edge Samsung panel capable of an impressive 2,500 nits of brightness, surpassing any other display currently available on the market. This potential capability further establishes Apple as a leader in display technology.

For comparison, the maximum brightness of all models of Samsung’s latest Galaxy S23 lineup is 1,750 nits, while the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are capable of reaching 2,000 nits in outdoor-restricted mode. The inclusion of a display with such brightness levels would demonstrate Apple’s dedication to providing top-of-the-line technology in its products.

It is worth noting that the 2,500 nits level is likely to be available only in peak outdoor brightness mode, similar to the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. Nevertheless, these potential capabilities still exceed any currently available display in the consumer market by at least 25%, setting a new standard in display technology.

To summarize the rumored features:

  • Available in four models: iPhone 15, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max (or Ultra)
  • Dynamic Island design for iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, with Pro models having a re-engineered design with solid state power and volume buttons
  • iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max (or Ultra) to have 3nm A17 chipset and Wi-Fi 6E capabilities
  • Periscope camera only available on the iPhone 15 Pro Max (or Ultra) model
  • iPhone 15 and 15 Plus may have few features that match those of the Pro models

iPhone 15 release date

As per the pattern of the past few years, it is widely expected that Apple will release its highly anticipated new iPhone series in September, which is considered to be the typical release month for the tech giant’s new iPhones.

This release date has become something of a tradition for Apple, as they have consistently launched their new iPhone models in September of each year, building anticipation and excitement among tech enthusiasts and Apple fans alike.

Overall, it remains to be seen whether Apple’s gambit of differentiating the design of their new iPhone models will be successful.
