The decrease in the businessman’s fortune in 2021, has given Elon Musk Guinness World Record. Elon is now the businessman who lost the most money in a year.

According to Guinness World Records, Elon Musk has now broken the record for the greatest loss of personal fortune in history (GWR). His loss surpassed the previous record by up to $124 billion.

The owner of Twitter has lost over $182 billion since November 2021. While “the exact value is practically impossible to verify,” other sources claim the lost amount is closer to $200 billion, breaking the previous record set by Japanese tech billionaire Masayoshi Son, who lost $58.6 billion in 2000, by a significant margin.

Musk’s steep descent kicked off in October 2022, when he purchased Twitter for approximately $44 billion.

In 2022, Musk, who doesn’t seem to care much about many criticisms of his actions in the business world and social media, usually approaches the news with a sarcastic style and makes fun of it when it comes to any topic on the agenda about himself.

While most people are dying to enter the Guinness book, this category is unfortunately the nightmare of successful businessmen. According to GWR, Masayoshi Son’s net worth decreased because of the turbulence and falling value of his tech business, Softbank, from a peak of $78 billion to $19.4 billion in July of 2000.

With the vast majority of Musk’s fortune hinged on Tesla stock, the 65 percent drop in the company’s value in 2022 was another black eye in a storm of financial woes that knocked off his status as the world’s richest person but gave Elon Musk Guinness World Record.
