Today, Apple launched macOS Ventura 13.1, the most recent version of the Mac operating system. macOS 13.1 Ventura comes after the release of first version by more than a month.

Apple launched macOS Ventura 13.1

The macOS Ventura 13.1 update is available for free download on all compatible Macs through the Software Update section of System Preferences. For Mac users who are unable to update to Ventura, Apple has also issued macOS Big Sur 11.72 and macOS Monterey 12.6.2.

The macOS Ventura 13.1 update released today includes the Freeform application, which enables users to sketch, draw, and write on a blank whiteboard-style canvas that can be shared with friends and coworkers. It also adds Advanced Data Protection for iCloud, which extends end-to-end encryption to iCloud Backup, Notes, and Photos, among other things.

There are enhancements to search in Messages, an ability to play a sound in the Find My app for locating AirTags, AirPods Pro, and Find My network accessories, as well as a number of bug fixes. The whole macOS Ventura 13.1 update notes from Apple are listed below:

Freeform
– Freeform is a new app for working creatively with friends or colleagues on Mac, iPad and iPhone
– A flexible canvas lets you add files, images, stickies, and more

Advanced Data Protection for iCloud
– New option expands the total number of iCloud data categories protected using end-to-end encryption to 23 — including iCloud Backup, Notes, and Photos — protecting your information even in the case of a data breach in the cloud

This update also includes the following improvements and bug fixes:
– Improved search in Messages allows you to find photos based on their content, like a dog, car, person, or text
– Participant Cursors in Notes allow you to see live indicators as others make updates in a shared note
– Play sound in Find My app can now help you pinpoint the location of nearby AirTags, AirPods Pro (2nd generation) case, and Find My network accessories
– Fixes an issue that causes some notes not to sync with iCloud after updates are made
– Fixes an issue where you may lose keyboard and mouse input in some apps and games

Some features may not be available for all regions, or on all Apple devices.

About macOS Ventura 13

macOS Ventura, the most recent version of the Mac’s operating system, was introduced at WWDC 2022. macOS Ventura is a major upgrade that brings a new multitasking experience, revamps a number of applications, and adds improved capabilities. Now let’s remember what was offered with this operating system before downloading the macOS Ventura 13.1 update.

With Stage Manager, Mac users have a brand-new method for focusing on a single job while keeping other applications accessible. Stage Manager places your primary app in the center of your desktop and tucks your other apps to the side for easy access when needed. Grouping applications and windows enables you to configure your desktop in accordance with your workflow. Stage Manager interfaces with both Mission Control and Spaces, and returning to the desktop is as simple as a click.

The new Continuity Camera feature allows you to utilize your iPhone as a webcam for your Mac, eliminating the need for a low-quality built-in Mac camera. Using a stand, the iPhone may be placed on top of the Mac, and it is meant to connect instantly. If you need to demonstrate something on your desk, there is a Desk View that utilizes the Ultra Wide lens, as well as Center Stage and Studio Light, an effect that brightens your face while dimming the background.

Handoff expands to FaceTime, allowing you to receive FaceTime calls on your Mac and smoothly transfer them to your iPhone, or vice versa. Messages is gaining undo and edit options to correct errors in recently sent iMessages or recall them, as well as the ability to designate messages as unread. It is possible to restore accidentally lost communications, and there are new collaborative features.

When sharing a file with Messages using the share sheet or drag-and-drop, you have the option to collaborate with the recipient by granting them access to the shared file or document. Modifications to a shared document are displayed at the top of the Messages thread, making it simple to collaborate while conversing.

In macOS Ventura, SharePlay works in Messages in addition to FaceTime, so you may watch TV shows and utilize apps with people while conversing in the Messages app.

In macOS Ventura, the Mail application has been redesigned, and the search function is more relevant and accurate than ever before. You will see relevant emails, contacts, documents, photographs, and more when you click into search and begin typing. You may schedule emails, and if you make a mistake, you can undo a sent email for up to 10 seconds.

Users of Mail can schedule reminders to return to a message at a specified day and time, and there is an option to receive automatic suggestions to follow up on an email if no response has been received. Mail is now able to determine, depending on the context of a message, whether an attachment or a cc recipient is missing.

Apple is delivering new apps to the Mac with macOS Ventura, including a Weather app and a Clock app whose iOS equivalents are identical. System Preferences has been renamed System Settings, and its style now more closely resembles that of the Settings application on the iPhone and iPad.

There is a new Shared Tab Groups feature in Safari that allows you to effortlessly share your favorite websites with friends and family by creating a collaborative bookmark list on a shared home page. Additionally, Messages conversations and FaceTime calls may be initiated directly from Safari, which is excellent for research projects, travel planning, and other purposes.

Apple intends to enhance the security of Safari using Passkeys, a next-generation credential that will replace the password. Passkeys are far more secure than passwords since they are never stored on a web server. Passkeys are simple to use, with Touch ID or Face ID authentication, cross-device synchronization via iCloud Keychain, and support for non-Apple devices with iPhone authentication.

The design of Spotlight has been overhauled with streamlined navigation and Quick Look capability for file previewing with a single click. The Photos app supports Photo Library integration for searching for images by location, people, scenes, and objects. Spotlight can even locate Live Text in photos, and it supports activities such as creating a document, executing a keyboard shortcut, and setting a timer. Spotlight in macOS Ventura provides comprehensive search results for artists, films, actors, television programs, corporations, and sports.

In macOS Ventura, Live Text works with video information in addition to photos, and there is a cool new Visual Look Up tool for extracting a photo’s subject and dropping it into another program. Visual Look Up can now identify animals, birds, insects, statues, and additional landmarks.

For better enjoyment of family images, the new iCloud Shared Photo Library allows up to six family members to share a photo library that is distinct from their own libraries. Photos provides intelligent sharing suggestions for relevant photo moments in which family members have participated, and every Shared Photo Library user can add, modify, or delete shared photos and videos, as well as mark them as favorites.

Metal 3 is included in macOS Ventura, enhancing the gaming experience on Apple silicon Macs. It features MetalFX Upscaling for increased performance, providing players with a more responsive experience and enhanced visuals. A Fast Resource Loading API is also available, which provides games with speedier access to high-quality textures and geometry for immersive gameplay.

There’s a new Rapid Security Response capability for deploying security patches without a system update and without even requiring a restart to make Macs more secure. This is all you need to know about macOS Ventura 13.1, don’t forget to download the update in order to utilize the latest improvements and security features.
