After a shaky start, Cyberpunk 2077 appears to have regained its feet. The RPG has surpassed games such as Modern Warfare 2 and FIFA 23 to become Steam’s best-selling game. A significant accomplishment for a game that was so divisive when it was first released in 2020.
2 years after launch, Cyberpunk 2077 becomes the best-selling game on Steam
At the time of writing, Cyberpunk 2077 is number one on Steam’s Top Sellers ranking in both the United States and the Global list. The game has surpassed numerous major titles to grab the top spot this week, climbing more than 30 places. Pawel Sasko, the RPG’s Quest Director, came to Twitter to celebrate the news and express his gratitude to the fans.

This rapid rise can be ascribed to the programmers’ efforts in refining the title. Following its underwhelming launch, the game underwent a significant facelift, incorporating upgrades and quality-of-life elements like as character customization and a transmog system. Furthermore, performance and aesthetic improvements for current-generation devices contributed significantly to the game’s refinement.
Of course, the game is not without flaws. There are several flaws with the vibrancy of its open environment, and its stealth mechanics leave more to be desired. Even still, seeing it gradually conquer the Steam rankings after all this time is really awesome.
Cyberpunk’s resurgence might possibly be attributed to the newly released Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The series is created by the famous Studio Trigger, with writing handled by CD Projekt Red. The plot centers around a teenage Edgerunner mercenary who discovers a piece of technology that creates a target on his back. So far, it’s been a success, and it appears to have rekindled interest in Cyberpunk 2077. According to the Steam charts, at least.
