We gathered the new Apple m2 processor specs. Apple is debuting its new M2 processor at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). After releasing the M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max, and M1 Ultra chips, Apple has now arrived at a more powerful M2 chip with significant performance enhancements.

New Apple M2 processor specs: M2 processor vs M1 processor

The new M2 chip, like the original M1, is composed of Apple’s own Arm microchip and is produced on a 5nm process with 20 billion transistors, which is 25 percent greater than the previous M1. All of these transistors should improve performance, and the M2 is expected to have an 18 percent faster CPU and a 35 percent faster GPU.

According to Apple, the processor is 1.9x faster than the “latest 10-core PC laptop chip”. To improve over the M1, Apple is using enhanced performance and efficiency cores on the M2, as well as 100Gbps of memory bandwidth and 24GB of shared memory — which is 50 percent more than the M1. Apple has four high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores on the M2, with a shared 16MB cache on the performance cores and a shared 4MB cache on the efficiency ones.

The M2 contains an upgraded media engine that supports 8K H.264 and HEVC video, as well as a next-generation secure enclave and neural engine. This means that M2-chip systems will be able to play many 4K and 8K video streams simultaneously.

On the GPU side, Apple is improving things once again with the M2. There are now up to ten cores, two more than the initial M1. A greater cache and higher memory bandwidth should help improve graphics performance, according to Apple, and there will be up to 35 percent faster performance at peak power compared to the original M1.

Do you know the macOS 13 Ventura’s new features, supported devices, and more?

The MacBook Air is the first Mac to feature the M2 processor. The MacBook Air’s wedge shape has been updated for a thinner profile this time, and the laptop also includes MagSafe charging. The new MacBook Air features a larger 13.6-inch display, improved camera, and 18-hour battery life, in addition to being thinner and lighter than before. You’ll find more information about the new MacBook Air right here.
