AMD unveiled several new processor launches at CES 2022. AMD announced the new Ryzen chips and Radeon GPUs for desktops and laptops during a virtual press conference on Tuesday. All of them will be available in 2022. The new Ryzen 6000 mobile processors, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, the Ryzen 7000 desktop CPUs, and several new Radeon RX 6000 variants were announced.

Ryzen 6000 CPUs will power laptops in 2022

AMD used CES 2022 to announce the Ryzen 6000 CPUs for laptops in three key categories: thin and light, gaming and content creation, and commercial.

The Ryzen 6000 mobile CPUs are built on TSMC’s 6-nanometer process, and they mostly rely on AMD’s new Zen 3+ architecture, which delivers increased performance and energy efficiency over the Zen 3 design that debuted in 2020.

The Ryzen 6000 mobile processors are ready to power more than 200 premium laptops this year together with the Ryzen 5000 chips of last year. AMD says the first units will most likely arrive in February.

The majority of the new processors include AMD’s RDNA 2 graphics architecture, which provides substantial boosts in gaming performance. They will work with DDR5 RAM and PCIe 4.0 and USB4 connectivity.

AMD unveils Ryzen 7 CPUs

AMD also announced a new Ryzen 7 CPU for the spring and according to the company it will be “the world’s fastest gaming processor,” thanks to its adoption of 3-D chiplet technology.

The Ryzen 7 5800X3D desktop CPU will outperform the Ryzen 9 5900X by 15 percent in terms of gaming performance. This performance rise is aided by a vertical cache, also known as the 3-D V-Cache, which sits on top of the CPU and increases the overall L2 and L3 cache to 100 MB, significantly more than the Ryzen 9 5900X’s 70 MB.

New 5nm Ryzen CPUs to offer 5GHz on all cores

In the second half of this year, AMD plans to release a new generation of Ryzen desktop processors, and it claims that the CPUs will be capable of reaching 5GHz on all cores.

AMD announces new Radeon RX 6000 line at CES 2022

AMD revealed a new Radeon RX 6000 graphics lineup at CES 2022. The company will bring 8 new GPUs for laptops and 2 new GPUs for desktops.

For gaming laptops, AMD introduced 5 new 6 nm GPUs in the Radeon RX 6000M series, they will be available starting in Q1 of 2022.

AMD also unveiled a new mobile GPU series for ultrathin laptops called the Radeon RX 6000S. These GPUs are built with power efficiency in mind, and they include cutting-edge technologies that improve performance per watt in laptops weighing less than 4.5 pounds. They will be available starting in Q1 of 2022.

AMD smart software technologies

AMD is also improving its Radeon graphics software solutions. The company boasts of Radeon Super Resolution in order to boost gaming performance. This new technology is based on FidelityFX Super Resolution.

The newest AMD software update, introduced at CES 2022, includes several new features, including a new version of AMD Link that allows users to play PC games on different devices from anywhere.

AMD says it’s growing the capabilities of its “smart technologies,” with the Ryzen 6000 series now able to use AMD Smart Access Memory. AMD has also improved AMD SmartShift, renaming it AMD SmartShift Max, to support a wider range of games and double performance in certain games when paired with Ryzen CPUs and Radeon GPUs.
