Kaspersky IoT Secure Gateway 100, based on KasperskyOS, was presented yesterday at the Hannover Messe trade fair. The new solution is designed to connect sensors and field devices to Industrial IoT (IIoT) service platforms, ensuring built-in security of data collected on equipment and its safe transition to digital applications.

According to a Juniper Research study, by 2025 the global number of IIoT connections is expected to grow by 107%, reaching 36.8 billion. Collecting and processing data from IIoT sensors on equipment enables enterprises to better understand their workflow, enables predictive maintenance, and improves efficiency and performance.

However, the main challenge is how to connect operational technology (OT) to the corporate digital ecosystem, which involves selecting relevant data from the entire data set, converting it, and securely sending it to the processing application in the IT environment.

Kaspersky IoT Secure Gateway 100 enables direct and protected connection to industrial domains via pumps/extractors, CNCs, conveyors, and many other high-value fixed assets. This first product has been developed based on Siemens Simatic IoT2040 hardware and KasperskyOS, and according to Kaspersky’s Cyber Immunity concept.

Thanks to the Kaspersky Security System, the KasperskyOS microkernel, and the Multiple Independent Levels of Security (MILS) architecture, the gateway can only perform the actions intended in the design phase. This means that most cyber-attacks on this Cyber Immune Gateway will be ineffective and will not be able to affect its core functions. Therefore, there is no need for additional protection for the gateway and connected equipment, such as anti-virus, device control, or data diode solutions.

The gateway is suitable for deployment in infrastructures with various equipment from different manufacturers thanks to the use of the universal OPC UA communication protocol. Kaspersky IoT Secure Gateway 100 has a native connection to Siemens MindSphere, a cloud-based digital IIoT services platform.

All functional components of Kaspersky IoT Secure Gateway 100 have been designed and developed by Kaspersky’s IIoT subsidiary – Adaptive Production Technology (APROTECH), which is an official Silver MindSphere partner. The joint solution enables rapid access to reliable industrial data that transforms that information into productive business outcomes, using powerful industrial applications with advanced analytics and AI.
