OMNIA published a list of the top 10 best-selling cell phones in the world in 2020.

Only Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi were able to place some of their phones in the top 10 best-selling smartphones throughout 2020. Thanks to data from the firm OMNIA, today we can know firsthand what were the most popular phones last year. And, to no one’s surprise, the iPhone 11 was the most successful device worldwide throughout last year.

But how does that leave the rest of the top? Let’s take a look…

The iPhone 12 was one of the most popular handsets of 2020

Apple has been the company able to occupy the entire podium of this ranking prepared by the consultant. With 64.8 million iPhone 11 shipped, the device launched in 2019 is placed at the top, closely followed by the iPhone SE 2020, the reduced price model, which throughout 2020 was able to ship 24.2 million units.

In the third position, we find the base model of the series. iPhone 12, very close to the SE with 23.3 million units, sold at an average price of $896.

Right in the fourth position, we find the first Android phone in this ranking. It is none other than the popular Samsung Galaxy A51, with 23.2 million units sold, making it the best-selling Android smartphone in the world in 2020.

One position below we see another model of the Galaxy A series: The Samsung Galaxy A21s, which with 19.4 million units shipped occupies the fifth position of the top, with an average selling price of $192.

There is also room for ultra-cheap handsets, and on this occasion, it was the Samsung Galaxy A01 model that was able to position itself as the leader in its segment with 16.9 million units sold. In comparison, a similarly priced handset such as the Samsung Galaxy A11 – in the eighth position – sold 15.3 million units.

Apple again appears twice in the top, with the iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Mini in seventh and tenth position, with 16.8 and 14.5 million units shipped worldwide.

As for the best-selling Xiaomi mobile of 2020, we are talking about the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro, which occupies a not inconsiderable ninth position having been able to ship 15 million units around the world.

From the list of best-selling phones, we can extract a lot of interesting information. For example, we can again deduce that only Apple can place high-end phones on the global top, while firms such as Samsung or Xiaomi are more popular in the intermediate or entry-level segments.

It is also interesting to see how Huawei, despite its popularity in certain markets, falls out of the top for the second year in a row. And we are very much afraid that, considering the brand’s situation, this is not going to change in the coming years.
