If you still use Windows 7 you should check that security update. Windows 7 is still used on many computers around the world, but it comes with a risk. A new vulnerability has been discovered and that’s why this security patch has been created.

Although Windows 7 is now a thing of the past for many users who have made the leap to Windows 10, the old Microsoft operating system is still widely used on many devices. Just because Windows 7 has so many years of “experience” doesn’t mean it is immune to attacks or security flaws.

This month a new vulnerability has been detected in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Microsoft has not reported that they intend to launch a solution, so computers that continue to use Windows 7 would be much more secure.

Fortunately, there is an alternative. 0patch offers a completely free micro-patch. The company has set out to provide security solutions to the millions of users of this operating system who have been left unattended by the cessation of Microsoft support last year.

Generally, 0patch solutions are intended for all those who have contracted their payment plan, however, this time the solution will be available to everyone for free.

Clément Labro, the security researcher who detected this vulnerability, explained in a video how attackers can increase their privileges on the local computer system. With Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2, all local users have to write access to two registry keys. According to this researcher, it is possible to have the Windows performance monitoring mechanism read these keys and finally load the DLL provided by the local attacker as if it were the local system.

If you still use Windows 7 you should check that security update. So if you want nobody to take advantage of this security hole and attack the computer system, we recommend you to download the patch. If you don’t already have a 0patch account, it is possible to download the micro patch by registering for a free account and use the platform to obtain the patch.
