Asus has unveiled its latest innovation in gaming monitors, the ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W, at Gamescom 2025. This monitor boasts a 26.5-inch, 2560 x 1440 QHD OLED screen with a refresh rate of 540Hz, setting a new benchmark for esports gaming. The monitor also features a dual-mode panel capable of switching to an unprecedented 720Hz refresh rate when the resolution is lowered to 1080p.

While Koorui and HKC have announced 750Hz 1080p monitors, these alternatives utilize TN panels, which are inferior to OLED in color, brightness, and viewing angles. Furthermore, these brands are not as prevalent in Western markets, and their monitors lack the resolution-switching capability of the Asus model.

The ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W incorporates a tandem OLED panel designed to enhance HDR brightness and extend the panel’s lifespan. A glossy coating further enhances color vibrancy and black levels, mitigating glare even in well-lit environments, according to Asus.

Details regarding pricing and release date remain undisclosed, but given the advanced panel technology and design, the monitor is expected to be a premium offering. The design features silver and translucent plastic, differentiating it from standard black-framed monitors.

In addition to the ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W, Asus is introducing the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQWMG. This model also incorporates the tandem OLED technology but operates at a 280Hz refresh rate. It relies on HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC compression, while the flagship model utilizes DisplayPort 2.1a with 80Gbps bandwidth.

Both monitors are equipped with Asus’ “Neo Proximity Sensor,” designed to prevent burn-in by measuring the user’s distance and automatically switching to a black screen when the user is away. Asus typically provides a three-year warranty against OLED burn-in. Modern OLED panels from LG Display and Samsung Display include multiple burn-in protection mechanisms.

The 720Hz capability stems from LG Display’s dual-mode panel technology. While some reports indicate 720p resolution at 720Hz, Asus and LG Display have confirmed that the panel operates at 1080p at 720Hz.

The Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W stands out with its combination of high refresh rates, OLED technology, and design. The inclusion of a tandem OLED panel is expected to provide better HDR performance and longevity. The monitor’s glossy screen coating aims to improve color and contrast. The 720Hz mode is achieved by lowering the resolution to 1080p. The “Neo Proximity Sensor” represents another effort by Asus to prevent burn-in. The company also usually offers a three-year warranty against OLED burn-in, which is a good thing because OLED burn-in is a major concern for some users.

LG Display’s dual-mode panel technology is responsible for the 720Hz capability. The ROG Strix OLED XG27AQWMG model is a 280Hz alternative that also includes tandem OLED technology and the “Neo Proximity Sensor.”

Other monitor manufacturers are expected to adopt LG Display’s 4th-gen WOLED tandem panel technology.

The Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W delivers high refresh rates, dual-mode functionality, and design elements. The inclusion of a tandem OLED panel is expected to improve HDR performance and panel longevity. The glossy screen coating enhances color and contrast. The “Neo Proximity Sensor” protects against burn-in. Asus offers a three-year warranty against OLED burn-in.

The ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W is an esports gaming monitor. It features a 26.5-inch 2560 x 1440 QHD OLED screen at 540Hz. The monitor can switch to 720Hz at 1080p resolution. It uses a tandem OLED panel for increased HDR brightness and lifespan. The monitor has a glossy coating to enhance colors and blacks. The monitor has a silver and translucent plastic design. The ROG Strix OLED XG27AQWMG has the same tandem OLED tech, but at 280Hz. Both monitors have Asus’ “Neo Proximity Sensor” to prevent burn-in. Asus typically offers a three-year warranty against OLED burn-in. LG Display announced the dual-mode 720Hz panel that appears in this monitor.
