Spotify is reportedly developing features that would allow users to change their usernames and introduce profile bios for greater personalization. These enhancements could expand user identity options on the platform, which has previously limited such customization to artist pages.
Android Authority identified code strings within the Spotify app that suggest upcoming username edit capabilities. One specific string indicates that users may only change their username twice within a 14-day period. This change aims to alleviate frustrations for users stuck with default or undesirable usernames.
The potential addition of editable profile bios would enable users to curate their musical identity more effectively. According to Android Authority’s findings, users could also choose who can view their bios, providing another layer of profile customization.
Despite these prospective improvements, there are calls for Spotify to enhance existing features such as Messages and Listening Stats. The Messages tab, introduced in August 2025, allows users to send direct messages to followed accounts, but ongoing notification issues have hindered its utility, leading to delayed replies.
The Listening Stats feature also received updates, now displaying users’ weekly music stats and enabling comparisons with friends. However, to see friends’ weekly statistics, users must invite them to chat, as Spotify does not automatically categorize followed accounts as friends. This limitation has raised questions about whether Spotify is attempting to promote deeper engagement with the Messages feature.
