WWDC 2026 will occur from June 8-12, with Apple expected to unveil significant updates, including a revamped version of Siri aimed at competing with AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that this overhaul will highlight upcoming software updates for iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
Apple will livestream the WWDC 2026 keynote on its website, YouTube, and the Apple Developer Bilibili channel in China. The conference will also feature a Platforms State of the Union stream and developer workshops focused on stability improvements and AI across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, visionOS, and tvOS.
The updated Siri is set to feature a standalone app capable of interacting with onscreen content and user data. Gurman indicated that the new Siri interface would be accessible via a redesigned chatbot-style experience in iOS 27. The animated Siri icon will move from the bottom to the Dynamic Island at the top of the screen to enhance usability.
A new “Search or Ask” interface will be introduced, allowing users to swipe down from the top center of the iPhone to initiate requests or searches. The Notification Center will be accessible by swiping down from the top left, a change that may be met with resistance from some users.
Further features in iOS 27 include updates to the customizable camera app and refinements to the Liquid Glass design. The revamped Siri is projected to launch as early as September 2026 and may coincide with Tim Cook’s final major product launch before John Ternus takes over as CEO.
In terms of overall system performance, Apple is reportedly applying a “Snow Leopard-esque” approach to iOS 27. The company’s engineering teams are reviewing operating systems for bugs and optimizing performance, aiming for a clean and efficient user experience.
Initially scheduled for earlier releases, certain Siri features leveraging personal context were delayed. In January 2026, Apple announced a partnership with Google, using Gemini models to enhance Siri’s capabilities. This will likely enable users to interact with Siri more naturally and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
The new Siri app will also provide users the ability to review past interactions and offer suggestions, while the “Ask Siri” interface may be integrated into app menus to facilitate context-specific inquiries. Bloomberg’s latest report indicated that these enhancements reflect Apple’s ongoing efforts to modernize its AI assistant. The article was updated on May 29, 2026, with new details from Gurman regarding the anticipated changes.
