Bluesky announced a new version of its app (version 1.121) aimed at improving photo posting capabilities. The update increases the maximum upload size for images from 1MB to 2MB and raises the resolution limit from 2000px to 4000px.
The app replaces its previous image grid with a swipeable carousel, accommodating mixed aspect ratios without cropping. Some users expressed a preference for having the option to post images in either grid or carousel formats.
The enhancements seek to bolster Bluesky’s competitiveness against social networks like X and Meta’s Threads, which gained traction for their photo display functionalities. Threads is recognized for supporting various aspect ratios and optimized viewing of larger images.
Notably, Threads also inspired a developer to create a standalone app dedicated to posting panoramic photos. While Threads supports a larger maximum image size than Bluesky, the specific limit remains undisclosed in its documentation.
